Kaliwanagan Kay Kristo (Aug 17, 2017): God Saving Us From Himself? That's D.I.D.! || John Pesebre

Listen to 702 DZAS Kaliwanagan Kay Kristo (a segment of Tanglaw sa Landas ng Buhay of Back to the Bible Philippiness) every Tuesday and Thursday 7:00PM.

Ang argument na tutugunan natin ngayon ay "God is confused or worse may dissociative personality disorder (DID) because He is trying to save me from Himself.”

Sa meme na ito sa taas, may isang bata na nagtatanong sa isang pari, “Let me get this straight. God wants me to let him save me from what he will do to me if I don’t let him save me.” The point is, ang kaligtasan na galing sa Diyos ay para iligtas tayo sa kaparusahang Siya din ang magpapataw” as if suggestion na may DID ang Diyos.

Sabi po  ng Psychology Today on the topic of Dissociative Identity Disorder, “Dissociative identity disorder (DID) is a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities, or personality states, are present in—and alternately take control of—an individual.”

Case in point dito yung Patripassians na pinuna ng todo ni Hippolytus ng Rome when he said, “See, brethren, what a rash and audacious dogma they have introduced, when they say without shame, the Father is Himself Christ, Himself the Son, Himself was born, Himself suffered, Himself raised Himself. But it is not so."

It would be good to understand yung etymology ng "Patripassian" dito kasi yung "patri" ay Father at yung "passian" from "passus" means "suffer" so parang yung sa meme na nag suffer ang Ama when the Father Himself died on the cross as Christ.

Pero sa tingin ko we have to make some "apology" as sorry bago mag "apology" as defense kasi sa totoo lang marami rin naman kasing professing Christians ang tila baga hindi bahagi ang Trinity sa doctrinal expressions nila.

Kaya naman sa tingin ko, in the interest ng intellectual humility, kailangan may apology ding marinig ang mga atheist sa atin dahil we have not been clear sa justification ng belief natin to the point that it creates a confusion sa understanding nila.

If I put myself inside the force of their reasoning mukhang ganito talaga ang nangyari -- they heard people who speak not from a Trinitarian POV.

So as Trinitarians, how are we to respond to this argument?

Sa tingin ko ganito: "God is NOT confused DOES NOT have dissociative personality disorder because in the Trinity, the person of the Father sends the person of His Son.

We can approach the apologetics to this in two ways: positive and negative apologetics.

For the positive apologetics, where we affirm an article of our faith, you can discuss the doctrine of ransom. Sabi ng GotQuestions.org -

  • A ransom is something that is paid to provide for the release of someone who is held captive. Jesus paid our ransom to free us from sin, death, and hell. Throughout the books of Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy are found God's requirements for sacrifices. In Old Testament times, God commanded the Israelites to make animal sacrifices for substitutionary atonement; that is, an animal's death took the place of a person's death, death being the penalty for sin (Romans 6:23). Exodus 29:36a states, "Each day you must sacrifice a young bull as an offering for the atonement of sin.*

Negatively naman, o yung tinatawag na refutation, maari ka din namang magbigay na critique sa formulation ng objection na sinasagot natin this way: sabi ni Jason Wisdom ng Christian Resources Ministry,

  • The idea of the bank paying the bank to save me from the debt I owe to the bank is too much for any rational person to believe." Is that really so ridiculous? Of course not. Why? Because it is simply a statement of the way things are. In order for the folks at the bank to forgive a debt that is owed, they must pay the debt themselves. In the same way, in order for God to forgive the sins of all who would trust in Christ, He took the punishment for sin in the person of Jesus Christ. If you think about it, that is how forgiveness always works. The person who has been offended absorbs the debt rather than demanding it of the offender. Otherwise, the wrong remains unforgiven. The only other alternatives would not be in keeping with God's perfectly just nature. He could either simply ignore the sin, or punish a scapegoat.**

Ang DID kasi is one peron na iba ibang personality. Ang Trinity is three persons. So hindi magandang equivalence etong objection na ito kasi sa different persons ng Trinity, malaki ang room for Christian thought to respond to this issue.
